Press Tab to focus the input, then type. Read only lets you read and select the value without changing it.

Semantics

A placeholder is not a label. For invalid input, set aria-invalid and link an error message to the field.

Checklist

• Associate a label with the input or give it an accessible name. Do not rely on the placeholder alone.
• Set aria-invalid for errors and use aria-describedby to link the error message.
• Check readOnly and disabled separately, including how they affect copying and form submission.
